Counting Sounds
Counting sounds is a simple activity that can be done with students of all ages.
Students and the teacher will go for a walk, and will count all of the different sounds that they hear. There is no talking, no competition, no distractions. At the end of the activity, it may be interesting to discuss the different sounds that you and the students heard such as footsteps, wind in the trees, birds, your own breathing, etc. |
Extension Ideas:
- Students could close their eyes and be led by a partner, and then later be asked to describe or draw what they heard.
- Writing in journals.
- Sharing the sounds that you heard with a partner or with the group.
- Discussing how the activity made you feel, and the impacts it has on stress/ your well being.
- Challenging the students to go on their own counting sounds walk and report back what they heard.
