The process of making this website has been really informative. It has forced me out of my comfort zone. I have learned a lot about web design, technology, and presentation. I have really enjoyed making this online portfolio because it is a great way to express myself, my ideas, and to potentially connect with and learn from other people! I am excited to build my website portfolio as I develop as a teacher. Ultimately, I hope to one day transform this website into a useful tool for communicating with my future students and their parents, as well as use it for supplementing my lessons. I am glad that I have such a great start with my literacy page.
The key concepts of literacy discussed in this section are important because they identify how each of the six different strands of literacy are important for instruction and for assessing. I believe that the Alberta English Language Arts curriculum is very inclusive of these different strands. This is good, because students all learn, and express their learning, differently. One unique characteristic of the ELA curriculum is that it is applicable to all other subject areas in one way or another! For example, GLO 1.1 "Discover and Explore" in ways such as setting goals, and developing understanding, definitely applies to subjects such as Math, Science, and Social Studies. Literacy in its expanded six strand form is incredibly broad, and pretty much all encompassing!
The resources that I have included throughout my literacy pages will be helpful for me, and hopefully others, because they all have a purpose. I have tried to include a variety of resources. Some of my favorite sources are the ones that link to other websites, because they provide the opportunity for me to interact with other people's ideas and perspectives.
If you have any suggestions for some resources that you think I should include in my literacy pages, or even just to have a look at, please either email me or fill out my contact form. Thank you.
