What is literacy?
Literacy is the ability to communicate with and through reading, writing, numeracy, visuals, speaking, listening. Literacy is also the ability to represent ideas and thoughts in a multitude of ways.
Why is literacy important?
It helps individuals communicate with others, and to express their own ideas. Literacy is an incredibly important "tool" in a students toolkit. It enables them to ask critical questions about their world, absorb information, and to form and express their own opinions! It is important to remember that there are six different types of literacy, not just two. While reading and writing are very important for students to learn to be able to navigate and interact successfully with their world, they are by no means the most important.
