PLANNING AND PREPARATIONWhether in the hall, the classroom, or outside in the field I am constantly interacting with my students and their peers, and taking note of their behaviors. I recognize the importance of me being cognizant of their needs, and adapting my teaching styles, approaches, and lessons to better fit my students.
I find making a classroom management plan BEFORE meeting my students helps me to ensure that I attend to some of the variables that will impact their learning, and then I make alterations AFTER working with my students to better tailor it to their needs. |
KSA #1Teachers demonstrate consistently that they understand contextual variables affecting teaching and learning. They know how to analyze many variables at one time, and how to respond by making reasoned decisions about their teaching practice and students' learning.

I am a very detailed and organized planner. I find developing detailed long-range and unit plans with curriculum objectives in mind keeps me focused, and allows for less-stressful day-to-day planning.
I frequently refer to the programs of study, as well as the "illustrative examples" to ensure that I am teaching the correct outcomes. |

Planning outcome-based activities and lessons is a strength of mine. I am a thorough long-range and unit planner, and I use these plans to guide my day-to-day lessons. I create detailed lesson plans, and implement numerous formative assessments to ensure that my students are effectively learning the appropriate information.
Additionally, to ensure my lessons are meaningful for students, I try to include engaging and relevant materials and activities such as samples of other students work, videos, and music. Please find samples of my planning below: Grade 3 Language Arts Long Range Plan Grade 3 Language Arts Unit Plan Grade 3 Language Arts Lesson Plan Throughout my practicums, I have found several online resources to be incredibly helpful. A few of these resources include:
The resources that I have tended to use are ones that I believe with engage my students because they are meaningful and interesting to them. Sometimes this means implementing a good "hook" for a lesson such as a video of Bernstein Bears and Too Much Junk Food before a nutrition lesson. Other-times, it is developing entire units of interest for students such as my Heroes unit that introduced students to different kinds of heroes in order to inspire them to write short stories on their own heroes. |
